Garage History

The London County Council acquired the Walworth site in 1901 intending to set up a depot for operating electric trams. This depot, named Camberwell, was officially opened in 1905.

Following bomb damage in World War II, the garage underwent significant reconstruction in the 1950s. It was renamed Walworth to prevent mix-ups with Camberwell Bus Garage, which was situated nearby.

In April 1966, the garage took over the operation of some “Red Arrow” routes until its closure in November 1985.

Yet, in August 1987, Walworth restarted running all Red Arrow services following the shutdown of two bus garages. The cycle came to a close with the launch of the Waterloo Bus Garage in October 1990, leading to the closure of Walworth Garage once more.

Walworth reopened in 1990, this time for route 176 operated by LondonLinks, a member of the British Bus group. London & Country’s route 78 was partially allocated to the company in 1995, following the acquisition of British Bus by the Cowie Group.

The Cowie Group underwent a major reorganization, leading to closure of the garage in 1997.

The garage underwent renovation at the close of 2003. It was reopened in 2004 to accommodate Travel London, owned by National Express. In May 2009, the company was sold to NedRailways and rebranded as Abellio London on October 30th of that year.

In February 2023, Abellio’s UK operations were subject to a management buyout, resulting in the renaming of Abellio London to TransportUK London Bus.

Garage History

The bus garage was established in 1999 by Q-Drive to serve its Limebourne operation. Unfortunately, Q-Drive faced financial difficulties and went out of business by the end of that year. However, Limebourne persevered and continued its operations until being acquired by Connex in July 2001.

Connex was acquired by National Express and underwent a rebranding as Travel London in February 2004. Later, it was sold to NedRailways, the Dutch national rail operator, in May 2009. In October of the same year, the company was again rebranded as Abellio London.

In February 2023, Abellio’s UK operations were subject to a management buyout, resulting in the renaming of Abellio London to TransportUK London Bus.

Garage History

Fulwell Bus Garage was initially established as a tram depot by London United Tramways in 1902.

The depot made history by being the first to transition to Trolleybus operation in May 1931, eventually becoming London Transport’s primary trolleybus workshop a few years later.

In May 1962, Fulwell proudly became one of the last two garages to transition to motorbus operation, ending this era.

Fulwell underwent a major internal reconstruction between 1986 and 1987, with the garage being divided into two parts.

The London United subsidiary of London Buses occupied the section facing Wellington Road, while the other half facing Stanley Road was rented out for different purposes.

In 1999, Tellings Golden Miller took over the lease for the Stanley Road side and started running buses. This went on until 2005 when the Tellings Golden Miller operation was purchased by Travel London.

Later, in May 2009, it became a part of Abellio London after another sale.

In February 2023, Abellio’s UK operations were subject to a management buyout, resulting in the renaming of Abellio London to TransportUK London Bus.

Garage History

Beddington opened as a garage for Connex in 2000 to house the vehicles for its newly won Transport for London contract on Route 3.

Connex was purchased by National Express and rebranded to Travel London in February 2004, before being sold again to NedRailways, the Dutch national rail operator in May 2009.  The company was rebranded to Abellio London in October of the same year.
