Greetings from New Zealand! My dad, Charles Barton, was stationed here throughout WW2. I also recall, in probably 1945 or 46, standing just about opposite the station watching the trams as they changed from an underground power supply to an overhead supply as they travelled to Eltham (and then the reverse on the way back to Lewisham).
Best wishes, Fred

Whilst I agree with the historical naming of the station, the London Fire Brigade refer to this station as Heston, and that is the reason I have named the article as such.

Can you confirm that in the 1980s Sidcup Fire Station caught fire. I was driving past the Fire Station late one evening and saw a lot of smoke coming out from under the eves and upper windows but no flames and there appeared to be no Engines in the Garage area, I carried on to the Police station just along the road and reported what I saw, but to this day I still don’t know if it was on fire.

My grandfather Robert Cook was in charge of this station in the late 50's up to his retirement in the early 60's after which he and my grandmother moved to 2 Castleleigh Court, Enfield Town. I have no memory of the fire station (I was born 1958 in Enfield) but have been told that my mother used to take me there in a pram to visit granddad. I do remember that bedtime stories from granddad were often tales of his time fighting fires in WW2 in the Mill Hill area (he took a firefighting job there around 1930 after leaving his factory firefighter job at the Lever Brothers works at Port Sunlight in the Wirral which he took up after WW1)

Hi Stacey

Unfortunately this blog is not affiliated with Arriva London and therefore I cannot assist you with your request. I can however inform you that Arriva London no longer operate Ash Grove Bus Garage and you would need to make your request to Stagecoach London via their head office at West Ham on 020 7055 9804.

Hope this helps

Hello, we are local Nursery five minutes walk from you near Regents Canal
The children that we take care of are from the local area
This is a bit of a cheeky question, but would it be possible to pay you a visit? Let the children see the buses up close we would just bring a small group
As the children’s main interest right now, our buses and some have never had the opportunity to be on a bus
Sending you a big thank you

Hi Doug

Sorry to hear about this, but unfortunately this website is not affiliated with the bus company involved or with TfL. However, the 164 bus is operated by Go Ahead London from their Merton bus garage and their contact details are as follows:

Address: Merton Bus Garage, Merton High Street, London SW19 1DN
Telephone: 0208 417 8500

Hope this helps

Hi Susan

Unfortunately, this blog is not affiliated to Go Ahead London, the operator of Route 265 so I cannot provide an explaination.

However, if you wish to contact Go Ahead directly, their contact details can be found at https://www.goaheadlondon.com/contact

Alternatively, you can also complain via Transport for London at https://tfl.gov.uk/help-and-contact/contact-us-about-buses

Hope this helps
